Celebrating the life and legacy of Paul Wisenberg: Lawyer, Leader, and Friend
22 February 2024
230
The sudden passing of Paul Wisenberg has left a profound void in the legal community and amongst all who knew him. A highly respected lawyer, Paul was admired for his intellectual prowess and deep understanding of the law. He was the holder of both a B Comm LLB and an MBA from the University of Cape Town.
Paul was a natural leader, treating everyone with kindness and respect. He was deeply devoted to his family, finding great joy in sharing moments with his grandchildren.
A man of diverse interests, Paul was an avid sportsman, passionately supporting both local and national cricket and rugby teams. Later in life, he discovered a love for cycling, enjoying both the camaraderie of his Harley Davidson club and the physical challenge of road cycling. He regularly practised Pilates and was an active gym member.
Paul’s adventurous spirit was evident in the recent celebration of his 70th birthday, with a memorable trip to Thailand with his wife and family.
Paul possessed a strong sense of empathy, volunteering as a Lifeline counsellor for many years. This compassion extended to his work at MPW, where he was known for his dedication and support to colleagues. He was proud of his Jewish heritage and actively participated in synagogue life. He was also a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and brother.
Over 25 years ago, Paul Wisenberg joined forces with Maurice Phillips to establish the distinguished law firm of Maurice Phillips Wisenberg. Their partnership proved highly successful, growing the firm into a respected name in the legal industry. Paul was not only a skilled lawyer, but also a trusted advisor, frequently sought after for his sage counsel.
His circle of friends encompassed individuals from all walks of life, a testament to his warm and engaging personality. This was evident at his funeral, where a diverse crowd gathered to pay their respects and celebrate his life.
Paul possessed a remarkable wit, known for his dry and insightful humour.
MP|W will continue to flourish, thanks to the strong foundation built by Paul and Maurice Phillips.
His absence will be deeply felt by his family, friends, clients, and colleagues.
He was a truly remarkable individual and we will forever cherish his memory.
